A 15-year-old Sydney girl cut ties with her family and was beaten by her husband after she became a child bride, police allege.

The girl allegedly married her then 18-year-old husband in a backyard, Islamic ceremony in Sydney's west last year.

Child Abuse Squad detectives on Wednesday arrested the husband at the granny flat he lived in with his teenage bride and charged him with marrying a person not of marriageable age.

Police allege the pair wed in Lurnea under Islamic law before moving into their flat, believed to be behind the man's parents' home.

Court documents reveal the man allegedly threatened his wife's family over the phone, including her mother when she raised concerns.

"The accused has said to her `if you start ... I'll finish it'," the documents state.

Police allege the man, who is unemployed, assaulted the woman to the point his family had to intervene to stop the beating.

Court documents state the teenage girl had cut ties with her family, and police believe it was due to the man's influence.

The man, who cannot be identified, appeared in Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday and was granted bail.

The case was adjourned to Thursday.
