Man accused of sex assaults on girl freed

A NSW Supreme Court has granted conditional bail to a young man accused of being involved in the gang rape of 16-year-old girl in a car park.

A man allegedly involved in the gang rape of a 16-year-old girl in a western Sydney car park has been granted bail.

Hassan Kugor, 20, denies sexually assaulting the teenager but the NSW Supreme Court heard there was DNA evidence relating to him that formed part of a strong prosecution case.

"It's a shocking offence," Justice David Davies said.

It's alleged Kugor and five others, including his twin brother and two 16-year-old boys, approached the girl last June while she was sitting outside Liverpool Library, coaxed her into a council car park stairwell and sexually assaulted her.

Bail was opposed by the crown, arguing there were concerns Kugor would reoffend and that he posed a risk to the safety of the victim and the community.

To counter the concerns, a $5000 surety was offered to the court by Kugor's father.

Kugor also said he would live with a middle-aged family friend at Blacktown, adhere to a curfew between 8pm and 6am and would avoid the victim, the five co-accused and the Liverpool area, except for legal visits.

The court heard he had strong community ties, a partner of several years and a seven-month-old boy.

"He has a minimal criminal history," Justice Davies said.

Kugor, who has been in custody since July, is due to appear at Liverpool Local Court on February 11.
