Man arrested after high-speed crash

A man who drove from Wagga Wagga to Goulburn at speeds of up to 200km/h is under police guard in hospital after a high-speed crash.

A man who drove erratically for about 250 kilometres along the Hume Highway is under police guard in hospital after crashing.

Police received several calls at around 7pm on Sunday about a black Holden SSV wagon that was being driven erratically in Edward Street at Wagga Wagga, in the NSW Riverina.

It was later reported to be travelling on the Hume Highway towards Gundagai and police say it was detected by a highway patrol vehicle travelling at 200km/h near Jugiong.

Police then started a pursuit which was later terminated.

Police say several motorists saw the vehicle travel through Yass and on towards Goulburn.

At about 8.20pm the vehicle was detected near Goulburn and another police began another pursuit when the Holden failed to stop.

A short time later the Holden left the road, struck a guard rail and overturned, narrowly missing another vehicle.

The driver was arrested at the scene and taken to Goulburn Hospital for observation where a 28-year-old Panania man remains under police guard.
