Residents have been told to stay indoors as heavily armed police stormed a house in Sydney's west during a dramatic operation.
Kylie Abbenhues was at her home on Serpentine St at Bossley Park on Thursday just after midday when the Australian Federal Police (AFP) made an announcement from the street for all residents to stay indoors.
The police surrounded a multi-level house not far away, yelling at those inside to make contact with them.
"Not long after, one bloke came out and they had him on the ground," Ms Abbenhues told AAP.
"Then a lady and her three children came and police spoke with her on the corner."
Ms Abbenhues said police then made an announcement for a man named Harry, who was still holed up in the house, to contact them.
After 1pm police stormed inside and were heard yelling "drop the knife" before three loud bangs were heard.
The AFP says one man is in custody.
An ambulance arrived at the scene but has since left and the man is understood to still be inside the house, in custody.
Dozens of AFP officers are still outside the house with the street partially blocked off.
Earlier, an AFP spokeswoman said the incident wasn't terror related and there was no threat to the public.
