Man arrested over Hoffman released

A jazz musician arrested in connection with Philip Seymour Hoffman's death has been released on bail.

The jazz musician arrested on drug charges in connection with the death of Philip Seymour Hoffman has been released on bail.

Robert Vineberg, 57, also known by his stage name of Robert Aaron, was one of four people taken into custody following a police raid as part of an investigation to discover the source of the heroin found in Hoffman's apartment.

The New York Daily News reported that Vineberg had left Rikers Island prison in New York after posting $US40,000 ($A44,476) bail.

Last week, Vineberg's lawyer Edward Kratt insisted his client wanted to attend a rehabilitation facility in an effort to tackle his long-standing drug addiction.

Hoffman was found dead in his New York apartment on February 2 following a suspected drug overdose. An autopsy proved inconclusive and further tests are being conducted.
