A man has been arrested over the suspicious deaths of three people at a rural NSW property.

The 61-year-old was being questioned by police, who said they would be searching a property west of Nyngan on Sunday evening.

The arrest comes after a man, 28, was found in the driveway of the Hermidale property with a gunshot wound, and the bodies of a 36-year-old local woman and a 59-year-old man, believed to be the younger man's father, were also discovered on Friday morning.

The woman had also been shot, while the body of the older man was found inside a burnt caravan, police say.

Media reports suggest one side of the caravan was destroyed, with debris strewn across a wide area.

Locals reported hearing an explosion, however forensic experts are still examining the scene.

"A post-mortem examination will be conducted in coming days to determine the cause of (the older man's) death," police said on Sunday.

The 61-year-old was arrested about midday by strike force detectives.

Hermidale, a small central NSW farming town, has a population of about 130.
