A man is seriously injured after an argument between neighbours turned violent on Sydney's lower north shore.

Emergency services were called to a Willoughby home just before 10pm on Sunday to find a 55-year-old man with injuries after a neighbour reportedly belted him with a hockey stick on the suburban street.

The victim was taken to North Shore Hospital while a 41-year-old man was arrested at the scene and charged with three assault offences. He was granted conditional bail to appear at Hornsby Local Court in April.
