A Sydney teen was sexually assaulted by a married man more than twice her age as she lay sleeping after a night out with friends, a court has heard.
The 18-year-old had been out drinking on a Saturday night in July 2014 before going back to a friend's share house on Sydney's northern beaches.
Her alleged attacker, now aged 43, also lived at the friend's home and has been charged with two counts of sexual assault.
On Monday, the opening day of the man's Sydney District Court trial, the jury heard he was still awake and playing music with his wife and a friend when the group arrived home late.
The young complainant, who was "well affected" by alcohol, was put to bed by a friend still dressed in the clothes she'd gone out in.
She declined her mother's offer of a lift home about 3am, the court heard.
The jury was told they would hear evidence the woman woke about 4am to somebody touching her underwear.
Prosecutor Fiona Gray said the Crown would allege the accused man then began assaulting the 18-year-old.
It is alleged the startled teen pushed back and demanded to know what the man was doing.
Her accused attacker allegedly replied, "Don't worry, I do this all the time".
Ms Nash told the court the girl was initially too afraid to tell anybody but later reported the assault to police.
Defence lawyer Sarah Talbert told jurors her client admitted he was at the home and went into the room.
Ms Talbert said the trial would hinge on exactly what happened once her client was inside.
"What he is saying is that yes, he kissed the complainant, he apologised to her and he went downstairs to where his wife was," Ms Talbert said.
"There were two people in that room and there were two people only."
The trial is expected to run for a week.
