Police say the trio knocked at the door of a home in Revesby late on Friday night before forcing their way inside and attacking a male resident, punching him in the face.

A second male resident fled to a neighbour's home and managed to raise the alarm, while a woman was held against her will in the kitchen.

The group left shortly afterwards in a silver or gold coloured sedan and remain at large.

Police say there were four children at home at the time, but they didn't have any contact with the offenders.
