A 50-year-old Melbourne man has described how he was bitten, bashed, sprayed with paint and almost run over after confronting a vandal who was "bouncing all around the joint".
The owner of an empty Templestowe house was doing maintenance on February 15 when he spotted a young man aged around 20 armed with a spray can.
Police believe he was intending to graffiti the property.
"I pulled him up and said 'Where are you going?' and his attitude was 'Leave me alone' and my attitude was 'You're not going anywhere'," Paul told 3AW on Wednesday after police released a computer-generated image of the suspect and a female accomplice.
Paul said the intruder grabbed him by the throat and the pair fell through a pane of glass.
He eventually broke free and ran to his neighbour's house and called the police.
But Paul was attacked a second time after returning to wait for officers to arrive and write down the number plate of the vandals' car.
He was bitten on the shoulder and the female friend then appeared, spraying Paul in the eyes with silver paint.
The woman, also aged about 20, tried to run him down with a white Hyundai too.
"She angled the car but she couldn't separate her partner from myself so she had one attempt and ditched that," the 50-year-old said.
He was also hit with a plank of timber and pelted with concrete.
The attackers then drove off with Paul's mobile phone and a piece of paper on which he'd written down their car registration.
Paul was hospitalised with serious injuries.
