Man charged after cops almost run down

A Queensland man has been charged after two officers were allegedly almost run down by a car while investigating a domestic violence report in Ipswich.

A man has been charged after he allegedly tried to run down two police officers in Leichhardt.

The officers were walking towards a Larsen Street home just after midnight on Sunday to investigate reports of a domestic violence incident when they heard the engine revving.

As the officers crossed the road to the home, a car allegedly accelerated towards them and mounted the gutter, police say.

Both had to run out of its path to avoid being hit.

The car allegedly continued along the footpath at high speed before driving back on to the road.

Police gave chase but terminated the pursuit because of the driver's alleged dangerous driving.

A 31-year-old man was taken into custody later on Sunday morning and charged with intention to cause grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving and failing to stop.

He is due to appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
