A 51-year-old man has been charged with sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl inside a southeast Sydney home.

Police say the man was visiting a home in Botany on Sunday and during the visit assaulted the girl inside a room.

On Wednesday, detectives from the Child Abuse Squad received information about the alleged sexual assault and later in the day arrested a 51-year-old Five Dock man.

He was charged with sexually assaulting a person under 10 and aggravated indecent assault.

He's been refused bail and will appear before Sydney's Central Local Court next Tuesday.
