Man charged over alleged CBD sex attack

A man has been charged over an alleged sex attack on a tourist in Melbourne's CBD.

A man has been charged after allegedly sexually assaulting a Chinese tourist in a morning attack in a Melbourne CBD shopping centre.

The 33-year-old from Northcote has been charged with one count of abduction and one count of assault with the intent to commit sexual offence over the alleged attack.

Police say the woman entered the Elizabeth Street shopping centre about 6.30am on Saturday when a man blocked her way and sexually assaulted her before she managed to fight him off.

The man handed himself into police following an appeal for information.

He has been released on bail and will face the Melbourne Magistrates Court on April 11.
