Man charged over Coffs Harbour marina fire

A 19-year-old man has been extradited from Queensland to NSW and charged over a $600,000 trawler fire at a Coffs Harbour marina in May 2013.

A 19-year-old deckhand has been extradited from Queensland and charged over a $600,000 trawler fire at a marina on the NSW Mid North Coast.

Last May, emergency services were called to Coffs Harbour Marina in the middle of the night to find a fishing trawler on fire.

As they were extinguishing the blaze, the engine started and the trawler moved away from its mooring.

Firefighters were forced to jump from the trawler, which crossed the harbour and collided with a yacht before continuing along the harbour and crashing into rocks. The yacht sank.

Investigators deemed the fire suspicious.

A 19-year-old man was charged in Broadbeach in southeast Queensland on June 30.

On Tuesday, he was extradited to NSW and taken to Tweed Heads Local Court, where he was granted conditional bail to appear in Coffs Harbour Local Court on July 21.
