Man charged over kidnap attempts in Sydney

A taxi has helped thwart an alleged kidnap attempt in a Sydney street, police say.

A man who allegedly grabbed a woman in a Sydney street and tried to force her into his car will face court on kidnapping charges.

Police say the woman was approached by a man as she got out of a taxi early on Saturday in the eastern suburb of Randwick.

He allegedly asked if he could help before he opened his car's passenger door, grabbed the woman by the wrist and attempted to push her inside.

During the struggle, the man allegedly slapped the woman across the face.

Police say the attempt was thwarted when the woman pulled herself free and ran to another taxi that had turned into the street.

She was not seriously injured.

Officers arrested a 25-year-old man in Hillsdale on Saturday morning, and police allege he was involved in a similar incident in Kingsford on October 23.

He was charged with two counts of attempted kidnapping and will appear in Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday.
