A 24-year-old Wyong man is in a critical condition in Royal North Shore Hospital after being punched in the back of the head during an argument in the hotel's car park at Erina at around 12.45am on Saturday.

The punch caused him to fall and strike his head on the pavement.

Police said that at around 2.30pm on Saturday a 22-year-old man was arrested at a home at Long Jetty and charged with causing grievous bodily harm to a person with intent.

He's been refused bail to appear at Gosford Local Court on Sunday.
