Man charged over Rydalmere shooting

An alleged gang associate has been charged with stealing, firearm offences and shooting with intent to murder over an attack in Rydalmere.

An alleged Brothers 4 Life associate charged over a shooting in a Sydney nightclub car park will remain behind bars following a brief court appearance.

Dressed in a maroon T-shirt, Osama Sarwat Toffic appeared via audiovisual link at Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday charged with a raft of offences including stealing, firearm offences and shooting with intent to murder.

He did not apply for bail and it was formally refused.

The 23-year-old was nabbed by police at Sydney Airport on Saturday night as he was about to board a flight to Germany.

Court documents allege that just before 1am on May 1, Toffic shot at Michael Rooke with the intent to murder him in Rydalmere.

It is also alleged that Toffic was armed with a pistol when he assaulted Mr Rooke with the intention of robbing him.

Police have previously said Mr Rooke was shot in the back, foot and groin while returning to his car and had to spend a long period in hospital as a result.

About the time of this attack, Toffic is also alleged to have stolen one car and taken another without consent.

One of the cars, a Nissan sedan from Granville, was later torched, police say.

Toffic will appear before Burwood Local Court later this week.
