Police have charged a second man over an attack on a transgender woman who was punched in the face at a Newtown Hotel in Sydney's inner west.

The woman, 43, told police she was preparing to perform with her band at the venue early last Saturday morning when two men began taunting her.

Police say the pair pulled her hair before repeatedly punching her in the face.

Officers raided a home in Balmain on Friday, arresting a 22-year-old man and seizing clothing and cannabis.

The man has been charged with recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, affray and possessing a prohibited drug.

A 23-year-old man has already been charged over the attack.

Both men will front court on July 9.

Hundreds of people rallied in Newtown on Monday to support the woman and speak out against alcohol fuelled violence.
