Man charged over WA sex assault

A 34-year-old man has been charged with sexually assaulting a West Australian woman he had met just hours earlier.

A man has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman in West Australian bushland hours after meeting her.

Police say the pair were walking near Denmark in the state's Great Southern region on Tuesday night when the 34-year-old man grabbed the woman, who is 23, and pushed her into bushland and sexually assaulted her.

She broke free and was treated in hospital for minor injuries, police said.

The Chilean national has been charged with sexual penetration without consent, attempted sexual penetration without consent, and false identifying particulars.

He will appear in Albany Magistrates Court on Friday.
