A 49-year-old Queensland man has been charged over the alleged stabbing murder of a young Gold Coast mother.

Police say the 23-year-old woman was stabbed in the chest at a home in the Logan suburb of Boronia Heights, south of Brisbane, on Sunday night.

Officers say the accused was known to the dead woman but wouldn't give more details on their relationship.

It's been reported the woman had three young children.

The fatal stabbing has shocked neighbours, the family's landlord said.

Devasia Thottunkal, who lives across the road, says the family were good tenants.

"I could not believe it because I know them quite well and everything was neat and tidy and very nice people," he told ABC radio.

"This whole neighbourhood is under shock because nobody could believe it, you know, that such a thing happened."

The 49-year-old man will face Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with murder.
