A man has been charged with two counts of murder after a man and woman were found dead in a Gold Coast home.

The bodies of a 39-year-old woman and 43-year-old man were discovered at an Upper Coomera home just after 5pm on Wednesday evening.

A five-year-old boy, believed to be the couple's son, was found at the property by an elderly relative along with the dead pair.

The boy was reportedly walking around the house alone when he was discovered.

Police arrested a 36-year-old man shortly after the bodies were found and he is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday on two counts of murder.

Neighbour Tony Smales told the Gold Coast Bulletin the family had only recently moved in to the suburban street.

"It is really sad for the little boy," Mr Smales said.

"You never know what is going on behind closed doors, I guess."

Regional crime co-ordinator Superintendent David Hutchinson confirmed to reporters the boy lived in the house.

"You would understand that a five-year-old child being in the house under those circumstances would have to be very traumatic," Supt Hutchinson told reporters.

"Hopefully his age will be in his favour."
