Man, child die in Vic tractor crash

Four people have died in the space of nine hours on Victorian roads, including a child.

A man and a child have died after the car they were in crashed into a tractor in rural Victoria.

The tractor was towing farming machinery in Katamatite, near Shepparton, at about 2pm on Thursday when the car hit it.

The man and child have yet to be formally identified, police said.

Another person was trapped in the car while a male front-seat passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the scene.

The tractor driver was not injured.

Earlier on Thursday around 5am a pedestrian was hit by a truck as he walked in darkness along the outbound lanes of the Calder Freeway at Keilor North.

Paramedics tried to revive the man but he died at the scene.

Also on Thursday morning a motorcyclist was killed when he crashed into a signpost and came off his motorbike in Mildura.

A passer-by discovered the crash about 8.30am.

The deaths take Victoria's road toll to 120 compared to 112 at the same time last year.
