A man is dead and a girl is fighting for life after two tragedies on Victorian waterways.

Paramedics unsuccessfully tried to revive a man found in a lake off Central Road in Blackburn about 3.20pm on Friday.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner, a Victoria Police spokesman said.

Meanwhile a pre-school aged girl was airlifted to hospital after falling into the Ovens River at Harrietville and hitting her head about 11.45am on Friday.

The girl had already been pulled from the river by the time emergency services arrived at the Camping Park Road site.

Police say they are not investigating her fall.
