Man dies after Sunshine Coast assault

A man has died in hospital after he was assaulted at a night hot spot on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.

A man has died after a late night assault on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.

The 53-year-old man was assaulted about 12.20am on Saturday on The Esplanade at Mooloolaba.

He was taken to Nambour Hospital, but died on Saturday night.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

It is the second fatal late night assault on the Sunshine Coast in three months.

A 45-year-old man sustained serious head injuries when he was allegedly bashed by three men outside a Maroochydore nightclub last November.

He died in hospital.

Three men have been charged with murder.
