Man dies after taking drug at Glastonbury

A young man has died at the Glastonbury music festival after suffering what British police believe was an adverse reaction to the drug ketamine.

A man has died after suffering a suspected reaction to the drug ketamine at the Glastonbury music festival in the UK.

Police said the 26-year-old man was from Reading in Berkshire. He had been taken to Bristol Royal Infirmary in a "life-threatening condition" on Wednesday night.

"Unfortunately, the man taken ill after a suspected reaction to ketamine has died this morning. The family of the man had been informed of his condition yesterday. His death is not considered suspicious," an Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said.

Police do not think the drug he took was contaminated, but that he suffered an adverse reaction to it.

A 67-year-old woman died at the site on Wednesday night from natural causes. Her death is not being treated as suspicious.

An electrical storm led to the plug being temporarily pulled on the Pyramid Stage.

Lightning streaked through the sky and claps of thunder drowned out music as torrential rain hit festival-goers, leaving organisers saying it was unsafe to continue.

Police said 85 crimes were reported in the first 48 hours of the festival, a 30 per cent decrease on 2013. About half of those were property thefts, with 30 people arrested so far.
