A man has died after falling seven metres while working at the James Cook University in Cairns, sparking a workplace investigation.
It's believed the man in his 40s was working on air-conditioning near the library when he fell through the roof of the building at 10.30am on Monday. He suffered critical head injuries.
A student, who did not wish to be named, said there were reports the man fell through an air vent.
"Apparently library staff were called out and it was an extremely horrific scene and they assumed that he wasn't going to make it," she told News Corp Australia.
Workplace Health and Safety officials are investigating.
