A man accused of murdering a Brazilian man outside a pub in Sydney's CBD has pleaded guilty to his manslaughter on the day he was due to stand trial.
Brazilian Lucio Stein Rodrigues, 34, died after he was hit outside Scruffy Murphy's Hotel in the early hours of November 3, 2013.
Nicholas Lambaditis was due to face trial for his murder in the Supreme Court on Monday but instead pleaded guilty to unlawful killing, which was accepted by the crown.
Outside court, the lawyer for Mr Rodrigues' family, Luana Torres said they were obviously disappointed at the outcome.
"Essentially it means the person who took their loved one away from them will not face a murder charge," she told reporters.
"Each case has to be decided on the available evidence and that is very much what happened here today."
She hopes that his sentencing in June will give them some closure on the "tragic" events.
"He was very much loved by his community and his family and it is just something that they can't understand.
"A few seconds changed the course of many people's lives. It is our hope and prayer that his death was not in vain and that situations like this will be prevented in the future."
Last year Magistrate Greg Grogin told Central Local Court that CCTV footage of the night "seems to show there were some words spoken" outside the pub before the attack took place.
Moments later, the Brazilian man was knocked to the ground.
