Man held over Melbourne woman's shooting

A man who handed himself in after a 22-year-old woman was found bleeding from a gunshot wound in Melbourne's north has been remanded in custody.

A man charged with shooting a woman in Melbourne's north has not applied for bail.

Paul Bazouni, 37, did not come out of the court cells during a brief hearing at Melbourne Magistrates Court on Saturday.

The Northcote man has been charged with recklessly causing serious injury, intentionally causing serious injury, and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and two bail offences.

Bazouni handed himself in after a 22-year-old woman was found bleeding from a gunshot wound after an alleged attack early on Friday.

She also had facial injuries and had surgery in Royal Melbourne hospital, where she remains in a serious condition.

The woman had been shot in the upper leg.

She was found around 4am in a bedroom of the flat at the rear of Joe's Organic Market in Northcote.

The market is owned by Bazouni's father.

Bazouni has been remanded in custody until he reappears in court on June 3.
