Man in court over alleged gangland murder

An alleged member of the Brothers 4 Life gang has had bail refused in a Sydney court as he awaits his next appearance on a murder charge.

A key figure in the Brothers 4 Life gang, Mohammed Hamzy, has faced court charged with murder and guns offences.

The 28-year-old Revesby Heights man is charged with murdering a fellow gang member, Yehyah Amood, on October 14, 2012, at Greenacre.

He is also charged with shooting with intent to murder Bassam Hijazi and discharge firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm on the same date.

In addition, he is charged with discharging a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to Alex Ali at Yagoona on October 8.

Court papers also show Hamzy has also been charged with breaching his bail.

Hamzy's appearance comes after police said they had made a series of arrests linked of gun violence across Sydney.

Those arrested included the "de facto leader" of the gang, they said.

Eight other men are set to appear in various courts and a ninth is still being questioned.

Hamzy did not apply for bail during his brief appearance at Bankstown Local Court on Thursday and it was formerly refused.

He will face Central Local Court on December 19.
