A man's in a critical condition in hospital after he was attacked at an immigration detention centre east of Perth.

A St John Ambulance spokesman says paramedics rushed the man from Yongah Hill Detention Centre to Northam Hospital just after 6pm yesterday.

The man, aged in his 40s, had face and head injuries from an alleged assault.
