Man in custody after Tas police stand-off

Investigations continue after the arrest of a man who was allegedly armed and held police at bay for several hours in northern Tasmania.

Police in northern Tasmania have arrested a man following a stand-off that lasted some 12 hours.

The 41-year-old was holed up in a Rocherlea house, armed with an "edged weapon", from about 2am on Tuesday following a domestic altercation.

Police negotiators were in contact with the man throughout the day and by mid-afternoon he was taken into custody.
