Man pinches live crayfish from restaurant

A man has been charged with theft and animal cruelty after he allegedly stole a crayfish from its tank at a Melbourne restaurant.

A man accused of nicking a live crayfish from a Melbourne restaurant has been charged with theft and animal cruelty.

The 26-year-old Tasmanian allegedly stole the crayfish from its tank in the early hours of Saturday morning, and was spotted by officers nearby in East Melbourne waving it around a short time later.

Police returned the creature to its tank and arrested the man.

He was bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on May 11.
