A man is fighting for life after he was shot in the torso by two men who confronted him at a Brisbane caravan park.

Witnesses say a volley of shots rang out just before 5am on Monday, leaving a 54-year-old man with a single gunshot wound to the left side of his torso.

He's been taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Police say two men drove to the caravan park on Hellawell Road at Sunnybank Hills and briefly argued with the victim before opening fire.

"During a very short altercation, the victim has been shot with a firearm. He's got severe, life-threatening internal injuries," police Inspector Tom Armitt has told the ABC.

The men then fled, sparking a manhunt across the Brisbane region.

Witness Ross Kelley was having his morning coffee when he heard a burst of gunfire ring out.

"The police officer come up to me and started asking me questions, if I heard anything. And, yes, I did tell him, yes, I heard four big bangs," he told the Nine Network.
