Man to be charged over NSW court rampage

NSW police are set to lay charges against a man who allegedly ripped a table from its hinges in a courtroom rampage.

A man allegedly ripped a table from its hinges during a courtroom rampage in western Sydney and was brought down with capsicum spray.

The 35-year-old is accused of running at police after busting out of the prisoner holding area of Fairfield Local Court on Wednesday afternoon.

"He allegedly ripped the custody table from its hinges," police said.

"The magistrate and others left court as the man then allegedly ran at police."

After capsicum spray was used to bring the man under control, he was taken back into custody.

He is expected to be charged on Thursday with malicious damage, affray and intimidating a police officer.
