A man is due to appear in court charged with intentionally lighting bushfires in Melbourne's southeast.

The 31-year-old man is due to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Saturday charged with 18 counts of intentionally causing a bushfire in the Ashwood area.

He and another man, 32, are accused of lighting fires between February 3 and Friday.

The most recent fire was allegedly lit on Friday morning before the pair were arrested.

Both men were charged at an out-of-sessions hearing on Friday night before the 32-year-old was released on bail, while the 31-year-old was remanded in custody.
