Manhunt under way for most wanted duo

A large-scale police operation is under way near Wagga Wagga after two men allegedly shot at police officers from a 4WD.

Two men who allegedly opened fire on police near Wagga Wagga are believed to be among the country's most wanted criminals.

Convicted criminals Gino Stocco, 57, and his son Mark Stocco, 35, have reportedly been on the run for eight years in Queensland, NSW and Victoria.

Police say they "strongly suspect" the pair were behind a shooting near Wagga Wagga on Friday afternoon.

Officers were trying to stop a silver four-wheel drive when the two men shot at the police car.

They pursued the 4WD for a short time before the men shot at them again near an intersection in Mangoplah.

The officers escaped both shootings unharmed.

Police are urging anyone who has seen the 4WD with registration plates CVS-95L to contact them.
