Manly are confident a much-needed win, and a much-needed weekend off will help them turn their NRL season around.
Sitting at the bottom of the NRL ladder after the opening eight rounds as the competition breaks for the representative weekend, Manly snapped a five-game losing streak last week with a win over Melbourne, just their second victory of the year.
Manly's only other victory this year also came over the Storm in round two.
But this time it was the psychological value of the win that counted as much as the two points, coach Geoff Toovey believes
"It was important for our psyche, it is very hard to come out of those troughs, we were in a hole," Toovey said.
"Just like when you are winning, losing is hard to stop, hopefully we have got the monkey off our back and we can put a few wins together."
Manly have been hit with a massive injury toll, but the week's rest means they could welcome back a host of stars for their round nine clash against Newcastle at Brookvale Oval on Sunday week.
"This rep weekend comes at at good time for us," Toovey said.
"We could have Jamie Lyon, Josh Starling, and Feleti Mateo back, there is three quality players for the game against Newcastle.
However Toovey confirmed Jamie Buhrer has suffered an ACL injury for the second straight year and his season is over
"That it is a terrible blow to Jamie," Toovey said.
"It is his other knee, (different) to the one he did last year.
"Rightfully so, he is a bit shattered but I have no doubt he will bounce back like he did from the last one.
"The good thing at least he has two new knees."
