Manly coach Trent Barrett has reportedly threatened to walk out on Manly over a lack of support and resources.
Barrett has instructed his manager Wayne Beavis to fire off a legal letter demanding deficiencies in the club's football department be addressed, according to News Corp.
Barrett has been linked to Penrith and quitting would open the door for him to step into the Panthers coaching role vacated by Anthony Griffin, sacked earlier this week.
Penrith general manager Phil Gould has repeatedly rubbished rumours Barrett will coach the club, pointing to his contract at the Sea Eagles.
It is the second time this year it has been rumoured that Barrett is unhappy with the level of support staff around him at the club.
In May, he vowed to stick with Manly after he was filmed meeting with his management and lawyers about the situation in Manly.
It's believed that that meeting arose because those close to the well-regarded coach were worried he was not being fully supported and that his career could suffer irreparable damage should things deteriorate and the Sea Eagles not improve on the field.
It's reported that Barrett this week met with club chief executive Lyall Gorman and asked that those issues be addressed.
There was no sign of tension between the pair as Gorman sat in on Barrett's post-game press conference following Saturday's win over Canterbury at Brookvale.
Gorman this week issued a public statement promising to address several holes in the club's football department.
Among them, he said the club had advertised for a list and recruitment manager, was considering appointing a director of football and he also pointed to their hiring of John Bonasera as the club's new general manager of football.
Gorman also said they were hopeful of getting their centre of excellence project off the ground, having secured $22.5 million in government funding.
