Manly upbeat about Cherry-Evans' injury

Manly are hopeful in-form half Daly Cherry-Evans will play in Saturday's NRL clash with Melbourne, despite picking up a calf strain in Friday's Test.

Manly coach Geoff Toovey is expecting star halfback Daly Cherry-Evans to be fit for Saturday's NRL clash with Melbourne despite a calf strain picked up in Friday's Test cameo appearance.

Media reports on Monday suggested the playmaker could be sidelined for up to four weeks by the injury suffered after he came off the bench for the final three minutes of Australia's 30-18 win over New Zealand at Allianz Stadium.

The Sea Eagles said Cherry-Evans' progress would be monitored through the week but Toovey believed that he would be ready to play in for Saturday's match at AAMI Park.

Second-placed Manly are already without injured stars Jamie Lyon (knee), Kieren Foran (knee) and Glenn Stewart (ankle) this week.

And they can ill-afford to lose Cherry-Evans with his halves partner Foran ruled out.
