Mannering wins Kiwis Player of the Year

Kiwis captain Simon Mannering has won New Zealand Rugby League's Player of the Year award.

New Zealand skipper Simon Mannering has taken been awarded the Kiwis Player of the Year award.

The Warriors backrower led the Kiwis to the Four Nations title in October, beating the Kangaroos in the final and the pools rounds, to secure back-to-back wins over Australia for the first time in 60 years.

Mannering beat off Golden Boot winner Shaun Johnson and Jess Bromwich to take the award.

"It's humbling to win this, with the quality of other two guys and other players in our group," Mannering said.

"It was a very special year for NZ Rugby League, not just the Kiwis, but also the Kiwi Ferns and the Junior Kiwis.

"There's a lot of desire for the game in this country, and it was great to have the opportunity to play here in the Four Nations tournament and reward that support with some success."

North Queensland backrower Jason Taumalolo won the Kiwis rookie of the year gong.
