Australia's manufacturing industry remains in decline, with 2015 shaping up to be another difficult year.
Manufacturing increased by 2.1 points to 49.0 in January, below the 50 level separating expansion from contraction, according to the Australian Industry Group performance of manufacturing index on Monday.
The lower Australian dollar was a mixed blessing, having some adverse effects on the industry, Ai chief executive Innes Willox said, which, along with declines in mining investment and car manufacturing, would weigh on the industry over 2015.
