Australia's manufacturing sector has shrunk for the fourth straight month amid weak demand, political uncertainty and the slowdown in mining.
The performance of manufacturing index came in at an abysmal 46.3 points in March, well below the 50 level separating expansion from contraction, according to the Australian Industry Group on Wednesday.
"Manufacturers noted the dampening impacts of further drops in mining construction, the progressive closure of automotive assembly, subdued business investment in equipment, and political uncertainties in Canberra and in NSW ahead of the state election," Ai Group chief executive Innes Willox said.
