"Merry Christmas all. One of these jokers just swallowed a pair of nail clippers. RALMFAO," the post read.

A comment underneath, from a Facebook user named Jason Drain, also mocked the detainee.

"I want to escort him to the shitter when he passes them," Mr Drain commented.

Mr Powell replied: "Plenty of opportunity Draino. Docs think it may take up to a month lol."

Mr Drain is also believed to work at the Manus Island centre.

The Facebook post has since been deleted.

According to his Linkedin page, Darren Powell served in the Australian Army and with the Queensland Police Service before joining G4S, which runs the Manus Island detention centre, as a supervisor.

In a description of his responsibilities, Mr Powell includes ensuring that "clients are treated with dignity and respect at all times by G4S staff," and "Report immediately an incident which gives rise to concern."

In a statement, G4S said the company was taking the reports seriously.

"G4S is very concerned by reports of recent inappropriate comments on a social media network," the statement read.
