One person has been airlifted to hospital and many others injured after a barrage of rogue waves swept a large group of people off rocks at the Figure of Eight Pools, south of Sydney.
About 150 people were standing on rock ledges in the Royal National Park when a series of large waves knocked onlookers over the ledge on Saturday afternoon.
One person has been seriously injured and winched to hospital, while another is being treated for a suspected broken ankle.
A number of others are being treated for lacerations, including one woman with several cuts to her head, a Westpac Rescue Helicopter spokesman told AAP.
A fleet of ambulances are waiting at nearby Garie Beach to assist if needed.
