Marc Leishman chasing PGA Sunday best

Australian golfer Marc Leishman is hoping to improve his final-round performances at this week's Honda Classic in Florida.

In-form Australian golfer Marc Leishman has pinpointed lacklustre final-round performances as the hurdle he needs to jump if he's to bag a second career US PGA Tour victory.

Leishman is hoping his first win since the 2012 Travelers Championship comes at this week's Honda Classic at Palm Beach, Florida.

Compatriot Adam Scott will tee it up at PGA National's Champions course as the defending champion.

Before missing the cut at last week's Genesis Open in Los Angeles, the 33-year-old Leishman hadn't finished outside the top 25 in his five events for 2017, including two top-10 results.

With chances to win at the Sony Open in Hawaii, the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines and the Phoenix Open, Leishman ranks 72nd on the US PGA Tour for final-round scoring average.

"The first three rounds of each event, I'd give myself a nine out of 10 and Sundays about a five," said Leishman.

But the Victorian native is glad to be contending early in the season after limited winning opportunities in 2016.

"The more I put myself into that position, the closer I am to getting across the line," said Leishman

"It's disappointing, the way I've been finishing off tournaments, but I'm glad to have chances to win as there weren't too many last year.

"I've left every tournament this year feeling like a better player, even (the missed cut) last week."

Leishman feels his driving accuracy is suited to the narrow fairways and thick rough at PGA National.

"It's a big golf course and I feel I play the big golf courses pretty well, like Riviera, Torrey Pines and some of the major championship courses," said Leishman.

"I'm driving it well, which is going to be crucial as the rough is pretty brutal this week."

Other Australians in the field include world No.7 Scott, Greg Chalmers, John Senden, Steve Bowditch, Cameron Percy and Brett Drewitt.
