After almost three decades of drama, debate and a lot of popcorn, Margaret Pomeranz and David Stratton are letting the curtain fall on At The Movies.

After 28 years of movie reviews Margaret Pomeranz and David Stratton have confirmed they are retiring.

The final show is due to be aired on December 9.

The duo started their highly successful program as The Movie Show SBS in 1986, staying with the public broadcaster for 18 years before moving their rebranded show to the ABC in 2004.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Mr Stratton thanked the public broadcasters, along with his co-host.

“Working with Margaret, whose enthusiasm, commitment and passion has been amazing – and only occasionally irritating – has been a joy,” he said.

Ms Pomeranz also thanked her “stubborn” colleague, describing him as a generous, decent man.

“I’m very sad to call an end to our show,” she said.

“It started out as a very fragile thing and only survived because there are enough lovers of film in this country to support a specific program about cinema.

“Thank you all.”
