Mariners' Korean recruit gets green light

Central Coast have received the all clear for South Korean recruit Kim Seung-yong to play in Friday night's A-League clash with Adelaide United.

South Korean recruit Kim Seung-yong has been cleared to play for the Central Coast in Friday night's A-League clash with Adelaide United.

The Mariners have confirmed the highly-rated forward was given the green light overnight and will be available for the round-18 match at Coopers Stadium.

Coach Phil Moss said he is delighted to have Kim join his side, having shown very promising signs over the past 10 days in training.

"He has looked very sharp on the ball and has fitted into the group very easily," Moss said.

"He is an extremely humble guy, and believes in our culture that everything is about the team rather than the individual."

Moss had hoped to use Kim in last week's 3-1 home loss to Melbourne Victory, but admits his time on the sidelines has been beneficial.

"In hindsight, the time it has taken for him to get cleared may have in fact helped him settle in," he said.

"He watched the game last weekend from the stands, and that gave him an understanding of what he can expect in Australia in terms of the pace, style and physicality of the league.

"People will also need to appreciate that Kim hasn't played 90 minutes since early December, so it will take a little time for him to reach his best.

"(But) we're sure that over the coming month Kim will show his qualities."

The Mariners have signed the experienced 28-year-old earlier until the end of next season.
