World champion Marc Marquez stormed to his eighth pole position of the MotoGP season on Saturday as he chases an unprecedented perfect 10th win in ten races at Sunday's Indianapolis Grand Prix.

The Spaniard clocked 1min 31.619sec on his Honda with Andrea Dovizioso in second place on a Ducati, 0.225sec off the pace.

Jorge Lorenzo, Aleix Espargaro and Valentino Rossi filled out the top five places on the grid.

If the 21-year-old Marquez wins the race he will be the youngest premier class rider to ten straight victories and the first back-to-back MotoGP winner at Indianapolis.
