Mitch Marsh has saved Western Australia from a disastrous rain-affected opening day of the Sheffield Shield clash with Queensland at the WACA Ground.
He and Sam Whiteman came together when WA were in terrible trouble at 5-47, but they have now put on a partnership of more than 100 to leave the home side at 5-156 at stumps.
WA captain Adam Voges won the toss and elected to bat first, but then the rain started coming down, delaying play for more than three hours.
Bad light eventually stopped play on Friday evening.
Marsh remains not out on 69 and Whiteman has also batted well to remain 36 at stumps.
Ben Cutting has two wickets for Queensland with James Hopes, Luke Feldman and Michael Neser all picking up a wicket apiece.
With a green-tinged wicket and cloud cover overhead, things were set for Queensland to take advantage with the ball and that's exactly what they did, getting rid of the in-form Marcus North for four, caught behind off Feldman, before another brief rain delay.
After play was interrupted for another 27 minutes, WA then lost three more wickets before tea with the struggling John Rogers making just four, Cameron Bancroft out for 16 to Cutting's first delivery of the match and Voges becoming his second victim for 12.
WA were 4-45 at tea and then it got even worse afterwards when last week's centurion Shaun Marsh was out for four, but that was to be the last wicket to fall as Marsh and Whiteman did well to get back some momentum for Western Australia.
