Shaun Marsh says he can't afford to consider his Australian recall as the last chance to prove his worth at Test level.
While Australian and state teammate Adam Voges says he's frustrated at the public outcry at Marsh being gifted a sixth chance at Test level, the man himself isn't thinking of it being his final opportunity.
"You try not to think about it like that," Marsh told reporters on Monday.
"For me, it's another chance to come here and prove to myself that I can play at this level and get out there and get some runs.
"I felt really good over the last couple of weeks ... the last two (Sheffield) Shield games I have felt a lot better and felt like I was getting back to my best so I go into this game confident I can do well."
Marsh will replace injured batsman Usman Khawaja in Australia's team for the third Test against New Zealand starting Friday at Adelaide Oval.
The lefthander has failed to lock down a spot in his 15 Tests, which have returned 861 runs at the middling average of 33.11.
His West Australian teammate Voges has heard the public criticism of Marsh's selection - but hopes the 32-year-old hasn't.
"It does frustrate me a little bit, Shaun's one of my very good mates as well as being a teammate," Voges said.
"I'm not sure how much off it he actually reads. I don't read a lot of it.
"But he has got the opportunity now and that is a wonderful thing.
"... People have their opinion, don't they, and in today's world with social media they have the option to express that and express it how they want.
"That's their right. That's fine. We understand that. That's the life we live.
"I'm sure he doesn't take any of it to heart."
